Math at Meridian School

The Investigations in Number, Data and Space (Investigations) Curriculum is the backbone of our math program for K-4, the scope and sequence our teachers can go back to as their point of reference. Our program for 5th grade is Everyday Math as it aligns better with the middle school programs. However, our standards reflect the use of a combination of national and international programs that will ensure our students achieve high standards in their mathematics education. To fill out our curriculum, our teachers also use other programs including Creative Publications Problem Solvers, Kathy Richardson, Mathland Arithmativists, Rocket Math, Everyday Math, MacMillan Math, Singapore Math, Morningside, Marilyn Burns, Susan O’Connell, and various other teacher resources and workbooks to enrich and reinforce concepts. As students work through a unit, teachers track their progress in terms of mastering identified standards. If a student fails to reach mastery in that unit, teachers will look for opportunities in later units where critical concepts and skills can be revisited. Some students may need more targeted support in particular areas as the year progresses. There is no intention to halt a class’ work within a unit until all students reach mastery.
