Service Learning

Active citizenship and character development are integral parts of Meridian’s mission. Throughout the year, our students are involved in projects and outreach locally and further afield. Through age appropriate service learning experiences, students increase their knowledge and understanding of those different from themselves.

Guided by the Service Learning Committee, children engage in a wide range of opportunities. Projects have ranged from measuring and sustainably disposing of student food waste to bi-monthly visits by the fifth grade to the local food bank, Family Works. Even kindergartners have gotten involved, helping a local public school plan and develop its garden.

In building strong communities locally and globally and encouraging students to embrace their connections to the world in which they live, Meridian promotes responsibility, compassion and active civic engagement. By emphasizing learning, thinking and action equally, we seek to shape not just minds, but hearts as well.
