Our Philosophy

The Meridian School is a place where the joy of childhood infuses the excitement of learning. By integrating curriculum, character, and community, we provide the foundation for well-rounded students.

Education is not just about teaching students to achieve. It’s also about what a child thinks and feels. At Meridian, we provide a solid academic foundation with sensitivity toward the internal lives of our students. Students leave Meridian confident, capable, and well prepared for the next phase of their academic lives.

Educational Philosophy

At the core of Meridian’s philosophy is the relationship between teachers and students. Small classes ensure that students thrive; children feel known and safe both intellectually and emotionally.  This intimate learning environment affords rich opportunities for cooperative and interactive experiences – we believe that student participation and personal choice lead to a powerful investment in and passion for learning. The thematic curriculum promotes integration across subjects, connected thinking and real-world application.

The strong sense of community at Meridian supports all learners, and encourages active listening to differing viewpoints and opinions. Learning how to solve problems and make good choices are a priority, as is respect for oneself, others and the environment.  We believe students need to take responsibility for their learning, and during the course of their Meridian experience students set personal goals, develop strategies to achieve these goals, and assess their progress. This encourages children not only to take ownership over their work, but great pride in their accomplishments.

Literacy, math, science and social studies are taught by classroom teachers. Six specialist programs in music, art, technology, library, Spanish, and health & fitness enrich the curriculum and allow students to explore the world through different disciplines. By providing a balance between rigorous academic instruction and social-emotional development, Meridian develops intelligent, competent and caring world citizens.

Academic Program

At Meridian, education is engaging and inspiring. The thematic curriculum fires imaginations and weaves academic learning into a joyful experience of exploration and discovery.

The Meridian community is one where students, staff, and families feel they are known, valued and belong. Our connections are strengthened through strong parent involvement and relationships with senior citizens, professional artists, and environmental educators that share our historic building.
