Often, answers that are brief and direct while providing reassurance are the best way to discuss the current public health crisis with children. Information shared with children should reflect sensitivity to their age and personality. It is important that adults provide a sense of safety and care in this period of uncertainty. We encourage families to continue to reference and model Meridian Cares (I care for myself, for others and for our place), as it is familiar language that is understood by all of our learners.

Several organizations have begun compiling resources with the purpose of supporting parents and children impacted by school closures both locally and nationwide. We will continue to update this list as we receive new information.

We acknowledge the significant impact of an extended school closure on childcare responsibilities for families. We recommend reviewing King County’s guidelines for gatherings of children and youth while schools are closed. This is a helpful resource that provides insight regarding social gatherings, sharing childcare responsibilities and more.
A Seattle parent is also compiling this list of resources for families impacted by school closures.
All in-person events are cancelled through the end of the 2019-20 school year. Families will be made aware of any virtual events scheduled in their place.
