A Joyful Start to Lifelong Learning

We believe Kindergarten is more than preparation for elementary school; it is a time to build identity, ignite a love of learning, and develop essential life skills.

Welcome to Kindergarten at The Meridian School, where wonder, confidence, and community come together to create a vibrant learning experience that nurtures the whole child.

A Dynamic, Integrated Curriculum

Our child-centered, project-based curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support each child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development, balancing challenging academics with joyful exploration, play, and connection.

Geletterdheid

Kindergartners become confident readers and expressive writers through a structured Science of Reading approach. Daily lessons integrate phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and handwriting, while class discussions, storytelling, and all-school presentations help students find and share their voices.

Wetenschap

Children explore the natural world as scientists, engineers, and innovators. Weekly lab sessions and classroom investigations begin with big questions, such as “What is a scientist?” and evolve into units on force and motion, life cycles, simple machines, and design challenges that nurture curiosity and resilience.

Wiskunde

Our math program encourages children to think critically, problem-solve, and communicate their ideas effectively. Through games, songs, and hands-on activities, students build foundational understanding in counting, patterns, geometry, data collection, and mathematical reasoning.

Kindergarten students learn about social studies at The Meridian School.

Maatschappijleer

Social Studies begins with the self and expands outward. Children explore their identities, families, and communities before discovering cultures and leaders around the world. Our global citizenship lens encourages students to inquire, investigate, and imagine their impact on the world.

Centering Social-Emotional Learning

At the heart of our Kindergarten program is a strong foundation in social-emotional learning. Through the school-wide expectations, Meridian Cares—I care for myself, I care for others, I care for my place—children learn to express emotions, solve problems peacefully, and work together with empathy and respect. Our SEL program is supported by a dedicated school counselor and is deeply woven into every aspect of the school day.

Cross-age connections deepen these skills: Kindergarteners build lasting relationships with their third-grade “buddy class” and participate in various community time activities.
