Commitment to Equity
The Meridian School has been a trailblazer in work on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) among Seattle’s independent schools. We are committed to DEIB efforts, both institutionally and programmatically.
As an organization, Meridian identifies challenges, addresses bias and prejudice, and supports DEIB in our programs and community. Our employment and admissions practices reflect and advance our vision of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the school, and we continually work toward building cultural competence within our community. From content to delivery, our faculty work to view and develop Meridian’s curriculum through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion, teaching critical thinking skills and fostering a sense of belonging.

Inclusive Program
Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for faculty, students, parents and guardians, and administrators to engage in courageous and educational conversations, as well as cultural competency workshops. At Meridian, we partner with local and national experts to bring topics such as media literacy, poverty competency, gender diversity, multicultural education, and race and privilege, among others.
Our intentional program engages students in conversations about identity and perspectives, discusses social and environmental issues, and empowers them to collaborate and take action for positive change. Our goal is for Meridian Monarchs to become capable and confident future global citizens who care for themselves, others, and their communities.
Community of Belonging
Excellent education happens when students are connected to, collaborate with, and learn from their local community. For this reason, we develop and sustain meaningful partnerships with numerous organizations, ranging from national experts to those within the Seattle area, our local Wallingford neighborhood, and our campus at the Good Shepherd Center.
We are committed to a community environment that is positive, nurturing, and respects the integrity of individual identities. We model inclusivity through respect in our daily interactions and by authentically sharing personal experiences and perspectives.
