Born in Moscow, Russia, Emilia began her piano studies at the Gnessin School of Music at the age of five. After immigrating to New Jersey with her family in 1989, she continued playing piano and singing in high school, college and beyond. Upon graduation from college, Emilia taught general music and chorus to grades K–6 in a public school in New York for nine years. Emilia was on the MusicFirst Educational Advisory Panel, advising on product development and the future of digital music education and has authored twenty lessons in “Elementary Keyboard Lab Curriculum  Teacher Guide.” Emilia and her family moved to Seattle from NYC in the summer of 2013. In 2016, Emilia launched a concert series called Live@Meridian. The series aims to bring world class musicians to our school community for an evening and an all-school Friday Morning Meeting performance. It is Emilia’s belief that developing the love for live music is a crucial part of music education. In 2017, Emilia piloted an instrumental music program, co-created with local musician Mr. Raymond Larsen, which has since become a permanent part of our fourth and fifth grade music curriculum. In addition to being a faculty member, Emilia is also a Meridian parent! Please feel free to email Emilia if you have any questions regarding Meridian’s music program, or regarding her family’s personal experience as members of Meridian’s community.
