Lydia Laurant

Lydia started her journey as an educator teaching marine science to elementary school students in the Coos Bay School District in Coos Bay, Oregon. She then pursued her master’s degree and teacher certification from the University of Washington. Lydia’s teacher certification is in both elementary and special education. She was a substitute teacher in the Kent School District before joining Meridian in 2013. Lydia worked as an associate faculty member from 2013 to 2017 in both second and fifth grades. The following school year she took over as lead teacher in second grade. Lydia enjoys hands-on learning, collaborative projects, and place-based educational opportunities. She is trained in Bridges in Mathematics, Wired for Reading, Responsive Classroom, Social Thinking, and Readers and Writers Workshops. She attended Slingerland Teacher Training at Hamlin Robinson in 2014. Outside of school, Lydia volunteers at the Seattle Aquarium, plays board games, and attends live theatre.
