Mary Allen

-B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Oregon
-With The Meridian School since 2005

Mary Allen has been teaching since 1995. For most of her career, she has taught technology and digital media skills. In the fall of 2016, she transitioned into a new position as STEAM and creativity specialist in the school’s new Creativity Lab. She loves to find ways to allow students to express individual creativity in their projects while exploring and strengthening skills for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Mary has attended a variety of professional development courses, including the Northwest Council for Computer Education conference, Learn to Tinker at the Evergreen School’s B.I.G. Lab, Approaches to Inquiry Science workshop, and Responsive Classroom. She is keenly interested in how the brain is affected by learning, and has attended three national conferences presented by Learning and the Brain, a consortium which brings together scientists, researchers, and educators. She has made a presentation on “Integrating Technology into the Classroom Curriculum” at the NWAIS Fall Educators Conference. Mary feeds her creative side with digital photography and making eccentric creatures out of papier-mâché.
